Romintza Gakunzi - UNHCR Program
Analysis and Reporting Officer, Division of Strategic Planning and Results
(DSPR)
Title: Discovering the land of a thousand hills (A la Découverte du Pays
des Milles Collines).
Burundi is a landlocked
country bordered by Rwanda, Tanzania, the Democratic
Republic of the Congo; and Lake Tanganyika which lies along its southwestern border.
The beautiful land of a
thousand hills offers among others the Royal Drummers of Burundi, an
intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO in 2014, and a globally reputed arabica
coffee. The small but mighty
country unfortunately also has complex development challenges, including
in the education sector with low retention rate, despite remarkable
improvements in access to basic education.
