In 2016, Mr & Mrs Harris established the Swiss-based Magic Libraries Foundation to promote libraries for disadvantaged children and the training of
translators in minority languages. Magic Libraries currently supports projects
with local partners in Asia, Africa, remote communities in Australia and
immigrant communities in Switzerland.
Yuko Matsuoka Harris is the
translator and publisher of the Harry Potter series in Japan. She was named by
Nikkei Woman magazine as “ Nikkei woman of the Year” in 2000. She is the
President Emeritus of the Say-zan-sha Group, Tokyo, and lives in Sierre, Switzerland.
Robert Trevennel Harris is a co-founder of Education
International, which today represents 32 million educators at all levels of
education – from pre-school to university – in 178 countries. He became well
known as a spokesperson for civil society organisations at major international
agencies. He was formerly President of the Conferences of Non-governmental
organisations, firstly at UNESCO in Paris, and later at the Economic and Social
Council of the United Nations in Geneva and New York. Over 19 years he chaired a working group on education, training, and
employment policies at the OECD in Paris. He was a member of the Global Agenda
Council on Education at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva, Davos, and
Dubai. He participated in many consultations for the preparation of G8 and G20
summits and OECD Ministerial Councils.
