Just 10 days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the three clubs of Genève International, Falticeni and Ukraine were able to send a first truck with relief goods over the border in Northern Romania to the Ukrainian city of Cernivci. Over the coming 12 months, a perfect cross-border Rotarian humanitarian programme was implemented: Based on a total amount of donations of 300’000 CHF raised by Genève International, the RC Falticeni purchased relief goods of most urgent necessity and transported them over to border to Cernivci where our Rotarian friends received them and took over the final distribution in town and in cities and towns close to the frontline. Over the period of 12 months, close to 50 tons of relief goods were transported in 12 convoys. In addition, a hot-meal-programme was supported in Falticeni for the refugees from Ukraine since April 2022.
We are extremely pleased to host a delegation 8 Rotarians in Geneva between 11 and 13 May 2023. Two are coming from Ukraine, and six are travelling from Romania. Besides the compulsory sightseeing (old town, Red Cross museum, etc.), the highlight of the visit will be the meeting with the members of our club on Thursday, 11 May. During that evening, the Ukrainian and Romanian delegations will present their clubs, their local and international activities and their appreciation of the ongoing terrible war in Ukraine. On the official side, a twin-club agreement will be signed between our club and RC Falticeni. We invite all our members to join for a wonderful evening in an Rotarian spirit of friendship and sharing.
