Rotary Casa Nord is one of the most active clubs in Morocco. It has a track record in intervening in rural areas to make sure that middle school and high school girls in rural Morocco do not drop out of school.

“Illiteracy rates for rural women and girls in Morocco remain as high as 90 percent (though official sources put the figure at 54.4percent)” Pr. Charrouf.

Only 12.48% of girls in rural Morocco between 14-18 years old enrol in high school. One of the main reasons for this low rate comes from the dangers encountered on the way to school. In order to ensure the girls’ safety, the government has put in place boarding infrastructures in high schools. Although this is the right intervention, those do not meet the minimum sanitary conditions and lack education infrastructures.

Since its inception, Rotary Genève International has been keen on supporting causes that pertain to improving the life chances of disadvantaged populations. The objective of this presentation is to explore avenues for our club to join forces with Rotary Casa Nord to support this cause.

Oyster Bay Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam is Tanzania’s largest Rotary club with 72 members. It was established in 2009 and has already carried out several global grants in the areas of health and education. It recently expanded into Rotary’s newest area of focus: the environment. Discussions started last tear between members of our club and Oyster Bay club on collaborating on a new project idea: ‘Safi – A Greener Tanzania’. This project would educate over 5,000 students on appropriate waste management. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the concept of working together for a greener Tanzania.
